BOSTON, MASS., February 11, 1992--Digital Products Inc., the leader in networked printing and peripheral sharing technology, is featuring a printing productivity package for Macintoshes connected to Novell NetWare LANs at NETWORLD BOSTON. The package, consisting of Digital Products' high speed print server, LANSprint, and Mosaic for Macintosh from Insight Development Corp., allows Macintoshes to share normal non-PostScript HP LaserJet and DeskJet printers with DOS based PCs and increases graphics printing speeds by up to 5 times. PCs connected to the network can also see the same speed increases. "LANSprint and Mosaic for Macintosh provide a complete printing solution for Mac users on a Novell network. Mosaic for Macintosh lets Mac users cost-effectively print to the same HP or PCL based printers used by DOS based PCs, thus alleviating the need for a LaserWriter or other expensive PostScript options," said Cornelius "Pete" Peterson, president of Digital Products. "LANSprint allows graphics, which are included in a majority of Macintosh applications, to print much faster than they can normally print on a Novell network." "LANSprint is an excellent complement to Mosaic for Macintosh. We have tested LANSprint with Mosaic for Macintosh and found that it significantly improves the printing speed of graphics and mixed text and graphics documents," said Arnie Lapinig, vice-president Insight Development Corp. LANSprint uses proprietary Direct Memory Access technology to break through the graphics printing bottleneck of Novell LANs. NetWare sends data to the printer at a rate of 2,000 to 8,000 bytes/seconds (bps). LANSprint has a maximum speed of approximately 100,000 bps, which allows LANsprint to more effectively utilize Hewlett-Packard's LaserJet IIIP, III and IIlSi, which are able to accept and print graphics data at speeds from 50,000-100,000 bps. Mosaic for Macintosh software allows Macintosh users to print text and graphics documents to Hewlett-Packard LaserJet, DeskJet printers and PCL-based printers installed on a Novell LAN without the need for PostScript hardware or adapters. Mosaic for Macintosh is user transparent and offers true WYSIWYG performance. Mosaic for Macintosh requires a Macintosh computer with at least 1MB of memory and the Macintosh operating system version 6.0 or above. LANSprint can be easily installed in any PC on the LAN and reduces the CPU strain associated with printing on a non-dedicated workstation. LANSprint supports NetWare ELS II and NetWare v. 2.15+ and 3.0+. The product consists of a VAP (Value Added Process) or NLM (Network Loadable Module) and an add-in board. LANSprint also requires a small TSR on the host workstation. The LANSprint and Mosaic for Macintosh package is priced at $795 for a three user version and $945 for a ten user version. The LANSprint and Mosaic for Macintosh package is available exclusively from Digital Products' authorized resellers. Digital Products, Inc. is the industry leader in printer sharing and server technology, supporting more than 600,000 users worldwide. The company's PrintDirector and NetCommander RS232 printer sharing products are used by leading corporations throughout the world to meet departmental connectivity needs. LANSprint, the company's high speed print server, increases graphics printing speeds on Novell and Banyan networks. The privately-held company is located at 411 Waverley Oaks Road, Waltham, MA 02154, (617) 647-1234. +---------------------------------------------------------------+ | From the America On-Line & PC-Link New Product Info Services | +===============================================================+ | This information was processed with OmniPage Professional OCR | | software (from Caere Corp) & a Canon IX-30 scanner from data | | provided by the above mentioned company.
